The BSF can include Time Trials in the National Championships and clubs can
apply to include a time trial in a meet. The Meet Director will then have the
added responsibility of running two meets at once. The BSF must sanction the
time trial and the same people run it as already mentioned in this manual.
The Meet Director should not expect the Clerk of Course to enter information
for the time trial as he or she will be busy enough with the regular meet. A
separate committee or person should be designated to organize the time trial,
take the entries, collect entry fees and surcharges, seed the events and record
and print the final results. They become part of the official meet record.
The Computer Operator should note that the limitation on the total number of
individual entries per swimmer per day includes any events swum in the time
trial. The Meet Director is responsible for ensuring adherence to this limit.
Volunteers (runners, timers, timing equipment operators, officials, and
recorders, etc.) are often willing to stay for the extra time needed for the
time trial. However, the Meet Director should inform all volunteers before the
meet of the added time trials. If an individual is unable to commit him or
herself for the extra time, the Meet Director should find a replacement for
anyone with a conflict.
